May Stitch Fix Review – the sequel

Since I received two Stitch Fixes this month, I decided to make this a May one as well so as not to confuse you!

You know the drill with Stitch Fix (referral link) – after filling out a detailed style profile, a personal stylist picks out 5 pieces she feels will best suit you. Last time around I kept 3, let’s see what the verdict was this time…

1. Loveappella Carlita Jersey Maxi Dress
Price: $78
Status: Kept!

photo 2

I loooooved this dress. It was so comfy and the material feels like a dream. Plus I love the color. $78 seems high for a jersey dress, but, that is what it goes for at Nordstrom (I checked) and this is such a great summer staple. Uh, sorry there is a lovely broom in the background. You all get treated to the looks of my bathroom every month. Figured I’d keep it real.

2. Bay to Baubles Lydia Faceted Stones Long Necklace
Price: $38
Status: Kept!

I am wearing this necklace in the picture with the dress, but here is a close-up. I absolutely loved it! I have nothing that looks like this and it will go with anything. It’s a keeper!

3. Kut from the Kloth Mona Boyfriend Short
Price: $68
Status: Kept!

So these shorts, as with every single bottom piece I’ve gotten from Stitch Fix, fit like a GLOVE. When I saw a picture of them I was like no way, these are going to look like “mom shorts.” But nope, they fit perfectly and are another great summer staple. I am not crazy about the price. I did some research and looks like they go for about $10 cheaper in retail stores (assuming you’d have them shipped makes up that difference, though). So I am just going to monitor my next Fix and give them any feedback about pricing…I’ve heard complaints about it being inconsistent. But alas I loved these shorts too much to say no.

4. 41Hawthorn Moni Stud Detailed 3/4 blouse
Price: $58
Status: Kept!

Also shown in the pic with the shorts, I loved this shirt! It’s such a “me” shirt (as Brian pointed out that it was a total Rachel shirt). Material is lightweight enough for the summer and can also wear to work. I did request more summery things in my next fix, like tanks and perhaps a maxi skirt. They’ve sent a lot of 3/4 sleeve blouses that once the dog days of summer hit I won’t be able to wear.

5. Papermoon Wynn Mixed Dot Print Front Pocket Blouse
Price: $48
Status: Kept…begrudgingly

This shirt was not my favorite. Had I not really loved everything else in the box, I would have sent it back. But Stitch Fix really gets you with their 25% off deal, so it was actually cheaper for me to keep it than to send it back. I am sure I will find a way to work it in to my wardrobe!

My stylist Patrice really hit the nail on the head this time, and mentioned multiple times how she had browsed my Pinterest board. Plus, I had a $25 referral credit from some lovely who decided to click on my referral link – so thank you to whoever you are! Total cost ended up being $197, not too bad for things that will go in regular rotation in to my wardrobe.  But no more clothes shopping for me for a while 😉

5 on Friday

I  can’t believe I am doing this but I am PRE scheduling a post!! Never done it before. But I want to give you all a Stitch Fix review too since my box is waiting for me at home. So alas, on to the 5!

1. This GUESS dress. I looove the colors in this dress, and am so on the maxi train these days. I have a Lord and Taylor gift card, I may need to cash that in soon.

GUESS dress from L&T

2. This recipe. Rated 5 stars on Real Simple and sounds so delicious. I think I am going to have to put it on the menu planner for next week!

Pork with black beans, brown rice and green-chile cilantro sauce

3.  This quote made me LOL when I read it on Pinterest last night. I 100% agree.

4. I am loving the layered necklace look lately and need to get me some stat.

5.  Our friends just got back from their honeymoon in Mexico and I swear all I can think about is sunshine and bathing suits! I added this beauty to my Honeymoonin’ board on Pinterest…I love everything about it!

Signing off for now, loves. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Our weekend + a great cause

This weekend was a mostly relaxing one for us, which felt incredible after a whirlwind of traveling these past few weeks. It was of course also Memorial Day weekend, which for me has taken on a new meaning over these last few years. Brian served in the Navy for 5 years before leaving in 2010. He and I met a few weeks after he had been officially discharged. I didn’t know him while he was actively serving, but I know how dedicated he was and that a piece of his heart will always be with the US Navy. He felt a calling to enlist that most young people don’t/can’t feel, and I will be forever grateful to him and to all our servicemen and women for that.

Shortly after Brian and I met, my college boyfriend and good friend was killed while on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He had married the love of his life on Sept. 4 and went to heaven on Nov. 10, 2010, the day before Veteran’s Day.

That event rocked my world and the world of so many others, specifically his family. Eddie was born and raised in a small town outside Syracuse called Chittenango, and his passing changed that place I believe. Ed knowing and willingly sacrificed his life for us, and were he given another chance I know he’d do it all over again. Even though his death was honorable, it changed the lives of others forever. Out of the ashes came an amazing cause, called A Clear Path for Veterans.

You can read all about it here in a post one of the co-founders wrote this weekend that brought me to tears. It was a different calling she felt, but an honorable one nonetheless. Please take a few minutes to ready about this non-profit that is doing amazing things for the Veteran community in Upstate NY.

With that I’ll leave you with some pictures of our day yesterday. We took Tucker for his first hike at a local state park and he loved it! It was a great way to spend Memorial Day with our little family. XO

I’m back, baby

Today is my first day back at work after Kait’s wedding, and I feel like I need another day of recovery! The weekend was absolutely amazing…so many pictures to share below. What we thought would be a beach ceremony turned in to an inside ceremony due to the horrific weather, but Kait took it all in stride and knew she couldn’t change it! She was a stunning bride. I was so happy to be by her side. We spent an extra night on LBI and I’m so happy we did, it was a mini-getaway! Now, on to the snapshots from my Insta! (You can follow me @ rachstr43)

Lucky to spend one extra day soaking up the beach, sun and sand. Nothing like the feeling of sand between your toes for the first time in months!

So the sun set on another wedding, and we came to the realization that…we’re next!!?! We have Brian’s brother’s in September, but in our group of friends we are the next ones. It’s very surreal. Let the countdown begin!

A sad end to Mother’s Day

I was going to do my typical weekend re-cap last night of a wonderful Mother’s Day spent with both of our moms and how blessed we are…which all remains true. But our night was rattled when we received a call from Brian’s friend he had just returned from camping with. Their other friend who was with them returned home to find out that his mother had died while out kayaking with his sister (on Mother’s Day no less). Just so tragic and awful. We are unsure of details yet, but Brian is very rattled. This is one of his childhood best friends and he knew his mom quite well. Bri lost his dad tragically when he was in 7th grade and has unfortunately known the feeling of loss from a very young age, so he knows his friend’s whole world has been turned upside down.

We feel even more grateful and blessed that we got to spend the day with both of our moms, and it made me just want to hug my mom even tighter. It’s always sad events like this that give you perspective, but it has once again reminded me that life is so very unpredictable, precious and that we are not the ones in charge here.

Please send along any positive thoughts and prayers to our friend and his family, they will need so much in the weeks and months to come.

Hope you all got to spend Mother’s Day with your moms and kiddos and furbabies alike. XO
